(GA15-006) (Louis Andersen/Greg Stanley) *D. Discussion/approval/disapproval of a letter to Governor Ducey regarding the housing of state inmates in county jails. The letter has been drafted by a consortium of counties that have excess jail space, and is in response to a request that counties bid competitively with private sector jails. The consortium of counties reviewed the request for proposal and determined that there were parts of the bid where counties could not comply. This letter states that counties will not bid, and proposes that individual Intergovernmental Agreements (IGA) would be a better way to partner with counties. IGAs could be tailored to meet the needs of both the state and county. This letter has been coordinated through the County Supervisor's Association with and will be signed by the Sheriffs and is recommended to be signed by Board Chairs of the five counties involved.
